Sesheke is a town belonging to the Western Province of Zambia, on Zambia’s border with Namibia. It is located on the northern bank of the River Zambezi, where Katima Mulilo Bridge connects Sesheke to the town of Katima Mulilo in Namibia. The town of Sesheke is situated in a scenic area, around 220 km northwest of Livingstone and around 600 km southwest of the national capital, Lusaka. Geographically, Sesheke is positioned between 17°28′ S latitude and 24°18′ E longitude.

Sesheke is noted for its nearness with a prominent natural tourist destination, Sioma Ngwezi National Park, which is supporting for the increase of lodging and other tourist facilities in the town.

 

Accessing Sesheke:

Like most airports in Zambia, the Sesheke Airport is also not served by any scheduled flights. So visitors are advised to reach the Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport in Livingstone first, where taxis are always being ready to serve visitors.

The Livingstone Airport is one of the three international airports of Zambia, handling flight services from Nelspruit, Johannesburg, Addis Ababa, Harare, Nairobi and Lusaka. It is located around 230 km from Sesheke.

Road connecting Sesheke to Livingstone is well paved, served by regular buses and minibuses. The local transportation of Sesheke is catered by minibuses, rental cars and bikes.

Katima Mulilo Bridge:

The Katima Mulilo Bridge is a well known manmade structure, constructed over the Zambezi River in 2004, which connects Sesheke to the Namibian town of Katima Mulilo. Measuring a length of 900 metres, the Katima Mulilo Bridge gets traffic during the rainy season by nature enthusiasts as when the Zambezi River catches the eyes of the tourists with full flow of water.

 

Sioma Ngwezi National Park:

Situated around 50 km west of Sesheke, the Sioma Ngwezi National Park is a prominent natural tourist destination, near the town of Sioma. Although losing prominence in recent years due to lack of facilities, the park still maintains its dignity of one of the top tourist attractions in Western Zambia. Apart from a wide range of animals, including 3,000 elephants, the park is also famous as a great bird watching point. Exploring it through a guided tour is recommended.

 

Livingstone:

Tourism capital of Zambia, Livingstone is a city with a great historical background and diverse natural as well as manmade attractions like Devil’s Pool, Livingstone Reptile Park, Livingstone Museum, Railway Museum and most importantly the world’s largest waterfall both in height and width, Victoria Waterfall. It would be an amazing experience for visitors. Livingstone is situated around 220 km southeast of Sesheke.
