Assamo or Ina ‘Assamo, is a town located in the Ali Sabieh Region of the African country, Djibouti, between 10°59′00″ N latitude and 42°50′00″ E longitude, about 110 km south of Djibouti City, the capital of Djibouti. It lies at an altitude of 757 meters, experiencing hot summers and cool winters. Assamo houses many natural tourist attractions that draw tourists from all around the nation.
History of Assamo:
Along with the rest of Djibouti, Assamo came under the rule of Ifat Sultanate and Adal Sultanate during the Middle Ages. Assamo also saw the French rule in the first half of the 20th century as a part of the French Somaliland protectorate. There is also a historic fort constructed by the French Army, located on mountain top.
