Nanortalik is a town in Kujalleq municipality in the south part of the Greenland and the word Nanortalik means “Place of Polar Bears”. Nanortalik is situated on the Nanortalik Island on the Coast of Labrador Ocean is famed for its towering mountain peaks and vertical walls in Tasermiut Fjord and renowned mountains of the town are Ketil and Ulamertorsuaq Mountains, these mountains are renowned all over the world. Economy of the town depends on the fishing and gold has been discovered in the town which may change the structure and economy of the town in coming years. Coordinates of Nanortalik are 60.1419° N, 45.2433° W.

 

History of Nanortalik:

Nanortalik was the first region inhabited by the Norse, due to its location and in the year 1770, town was established as Nennortalik and eternal trading depot was established in the year 1797 by traders from Julianehab.

Nanortalik is located at the southern part of the Greenland and home for the various flora and fauna in the Greenland. Nanortalik is the only town in the Greenland bounded by forest and one can see the tallest trees in the town and there are nearly 300 species of other plants apart from lichens.
