Balti is a Moldovan city located in the northern part of the country, around 140 km northwest of Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. It is the 2nd largest city of the country in area and 3rd largest in population. Balti is the commercial and cultural hub of northern Moldova as it is popularly called as “the northern capital”.

Balti is situated on the banks of the Raut River at an altitude of 59 meters, covering a total area of 120 sq. km. It coordinates with 47°46′ N latitude and 27°55′ E longitude.
