Ungheni is a town and the administrative centre of Ungheni District in Moldova covering an area of 16.4 sq. km. It is Moldova’s 7th largest town with a population of 35,157 people. Gustave Eiffel Bridge is one of the main landmarks of Ungheni.

 

Geography of Ungheni:

Lying between 47°13′ N latitude and 27°49′ E longitude, Ungheni is situated about 110 km northwest of Chisinau, the capital of Moldova.

 

History of Ungheni:

Ungheni was first mentioned in the historical records of Moldova in 1462 as a town. During the rule of Russian Empire in Moldova, Russia established a railway line between Chisinau and Ungheni for the Russo-Turkish War and later it gained more importance as a main link between Romania and the USSR after the Second World War.
