Akumal is a small town situated between Playa del Carmen and Tulum towns in Tulum Municipality in Quintana Roo state of Mexico, about 100 km from the state largest city Cancun and 270 km from state capital Chetumal and 1560 km from the national capital Mexico City.

Akumal is famous for its two marvelous beaches that are located in the south and north end of the town with rare Green Sea Turtle habitat. Yal Ku Lagoon in the north of town is great to do snorkeling. Akumal is the location of ONDARTE International Artist Residency.

Etymology and History of Akumal:

Mexican businessman, writer and archaeologist, Pablo Bush Romero was the founder of Akumal who founded it officially as a community for scuba divers in 1958. Hotel Club Akumal Caribe is one of the famous hotels in Akumal belonging to Akumal founder, Pablo Bush Romero’s family.
