Cozumel is positioned off the eastern coast of Yucatsn Peninsula of Mexico at 20°25′ N 86°55′ W. It is made up of 2 islands covering a total area of 647.33 sq. km. Cozumel is the largest Caribbean island of Mexico with length of 48 km and width of 16 km.

 

Etymology of Cozumel:

The name of Cozumel comes from the Mayan language word ‘Cuzamil’ or “Ah Cuzamil Peten” and its literal meaning is ‘the island of swallows’.
