Tulum is an archeological site located in Quintana Roo state of Mexico. This coastal Maya site was built by Mayas and it was very rich site between the 13th and 15th centuries. Tulum is situated about 130 km from Cancun, 250 km from Chetumal and 1500 km from Mexico City.

Geography of Tulum:

Tulum is located on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula at 20°12′53″ N 87°25′44″ W. It is sited 12 meters above sea level featuring a tropical savanna climate.

 

History of Tulum:

Tulum was known as Zama (City of Dawn) during the Mayan period and the present name Tulum was derived from the Yucatan Mayan language. Spanish Juan Diaz was the first European to visit Tulum in 1518.

 

How to reach Tulum?

Cancun International Airport is the closest airport to Tulum located around 115 km away. It takes around 3 hour from the airport to Tulum by bus available three times a day i.e. at 15:40, 19:45 and 20:45 and it costs $16 USD.
