Setif is the capital of the province of Sétif located in the northeastern part of Algeria, between 36°11′ N latitude and 5°24′ E longitude, around 125 kilometers southwest of Constantine and 265 kilometers southeast of Algiers, the capital of Algeria. Its position around 1,096 meters above sea level has made it as the 2nd highest capital of the province in Algeria.

History of Setif:

The history of Setif begins with its foundation made by the Romans as a veterans colony during the rule of the emperor Nerva. The real growth of Setif initiated becoming the capital of the newly formed Mauretania Sitifensis province around 297 AD. Setif also came under the French rule in the 19th century and remained until Algeria became an independent country in 1962.
