Setif is the capital of the province of Sétif located in the northeastern part of Algeria, between 36°11′ N latitude and 5°24′ E longitude, around 125 kilometers southwest of Constantine and 265 kilometers southeast of Algiers, the capital of Algeria. The history of Setif begins with its foundation made by the Romans as a veterans colony during the rule of the emperor Nerva.
