Annaba is the capital city of the province of Annaba on the northeastern Mediterranean coast of Algeria. It ranks the 4th largest city of Algeria in terms of population and covers a total area of 49 square kilometers. It is famous among natives and other northeastern region people as Balad Al Unnâb indicates the plentiful growth of Jujubes fruits in the area.

Annaba is one of the emerging cities in the fields of industry, tourism and finance in Algeria. Geographically, Annaba is situated between 36°54′ N latitude and 7°46′ E longitude, around 540 kilometers east of Algiers, the capital of Algeria.

History of Annaba:

Annaba is an ancient city and the recorded history of Annaba begins with the Roman period when it was called Hippo Regius. The history of Annaba is also noted in which the famous personality Augustine of Hippo served as a bishop from 396 until the end of his life 430. During French rule, Annaba had name of Bône.

 

How to reach Annaba?

Annaba has an international airport, named Rabah Bitat International Airport and is situated around 9 kilometers away from the heart of Annaba. It operates flights from and to Marseille, Paris, Algiers, In Amenas, Istanbul, Nice, Oran, Lyon, El Oued, Hassi Messaoud, In Salah and Tamanrasset.

Annaba is connected through road to all the major cities of Algeria including Algiers, but this is not recommended option due to the unupgraded infrastructure.

Buses are available for both airport travel and local travel in Annaba.
