Kakata is a city and the administrative centre of the Margibi County in the African country Liberia, between 6°31′48″ N latitude and 10°21′6″ W longitude. It falls under Kakata District, is situated around 70 km northeast of Monrovia, the capital of Liberia. Kakata is relatively a commercial town with all basic and upgraded facilities, including a large market and a hospital, C. H. Rennie Hospital.

Kakata has an agriculture based economy, surrounded by over hundred acres of rubber plantations. The renowned Booker Washington Institute is one of the prime educational institution as well as identity of Kakata.  Apart from Washington Institute, Kakata also houses many noted educational institutions, including E. J. Yancy and KRTTI Demonstration School.

 

Accessing Kakata:

Due to its nearness with the national capital, Monrovia, reaching Kakata would not be a difficult task for visitors. The Roberts International Airport, primary airport of Liberia, is situated around 35 km south of Kakata. Including scheduled flights from London, Brussels, Casablanca and New York, the airport covers many European, Asian and European cities.

Kakata is well connected by bus to Monrovia, Paynesville, Harbel and other Liberian cities and towns. Minibuses are mainly used for local travel in Kakata. In addition of availing buses, rental cars are also available for local travel in Kakata.

The Firestone Natural Rubber Company is one of the identities of Kakata as the world’s largest contiguous rubber plantation. The company is headquartered in Indianapolis in USA. Visitors are allowed with a prior permission to visit rubber plantation.

 

Booker Washington Institute:

Founded in 1929, the Booker Washington Institute is a premiere vocational high school of Liberia and also holds the title of the first agricultural and vocational school in the nation. The university trains around 1,800 students. It is situated around 65 km east of the country’s capital Monrovia.
