Port Sudan is a port city and the capital of the state of Red Sea in the northeastern Sudan, located around 820 km northeast of the country’s capital, Khartoum. It is located on the coastline of the Red Sea, holding the most important port of Sudan. Port Sudan is also one of the renowned tourist destinations of Sudan, mainly for nature gifted spectacular beaches and exciting scuba-diving opportunities.

Port Sudan is also well known among pilgrims travelling to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, who start their sea journey from Port Sudan and get down at Jeddah Port in Saudi Arabia. Port Sudan experiences an arid (desert) climate with relatively hot winters and extreme hot summers. Port Sudan originated as a railway terminus during the British colonial period in 1909.
