Dosso is a tourist favor city, situated in the Dosso Region of the western African country, Niger. Geographically, it is in the southwest part of the country, between 13°03′ N latitude and 03°12′ E longitude, around 140 km southeast of the national capital, Niamey. The city of Dosso is the capital as well as the largest city of Dosso Region, home to Djermakoy’s palace and museum, which are designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2006. The elevation of Dosso measures around 227 meters.

 

History of Dosso:

The history of Dosso is especially noted for the Dosso kingdom, which was one of the renowned regional powers in Niger prior to the European rule in the country. Djermakoy or Zarmakoy was the title given to the ruler of the kingdom.

 

How to access Dosso?

Due to its position near the national capital, Niamey, reaching Dosso is not as difficult as accessing the eastern and northern cities of Niger. The Niamey Airport or Diori Hamani International Airport is located around 130 km northwest of Dosso and receives flights from Abuja, Cotonou, Ouagadougou, Bamako, Dakar, Istanbul, Addis Ababa, Ouagadougou, Paris, Cotonou, Lomé, N’Djamena, Algiers and Abidjan and many other global destinations, served by Air Burkina, Westair Benin, Turkish Airlines, Air France, Royal Air Maroc and many other prominent airlines.

After getting Niamey Airport, visitors can choose an airport taxi or rental car or wait until the arrival of bus to reach Dosso.

Dosso Museum describes the complete history of Dosso Kingdom with objects like costumes, chairs and weapons dating from that period. Together with the palace, the museum was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list in 2006.

 

Niamey:

Niamey is the capital city of Niger, holding different tourist attractions, of which many have historic significance, such as Grande Mosquée, Grande Marché and Cathedral de Maorey.
