Kara is one of the important cities of the Western African country, Togo. It is located in the northern part of the country in the Kara Region, located at an elevation of 312 meters above sea level. The city is passed by Haugeau River in the south. Kara originated as a village with name Lama-Kara (which is still on the outskirts of Kara) and developed as one of the commercial centres of the country with many luxury hotels, banks and bustling market. Kara is geographically positioned between 9°32′56″ N latitude and 1°11′26″ E longitude, around 410 km north of Lome, the capital and largest city of Togo.

 

How to get Kara?

Kara is served by the Niamtougou International Airport, located around 30 km northwest of the centre of Kara city. The airport recives no commercial flights but it can be reached by charter and private flights from Lome. Kara is located around 410 km from Lomé–Tokoin Airport, where flights to many global cities like Paris, Brussels and Casablanca are available.

There are buses plying between Kara and Lome every day at 7am from both destinations that generally take 7 hours.

Niamtougou is a market town and also the site of Niamtougou International Airport, situated around 30 km from Kara city. Traditional market is one of the highlights of Niamtougou that remains active every day and market day is Sunday. There is also a large Roman Catholic Church in the town.

 

Parc Sarakawa:

Parc Sarakawa is a wildlife resort, located near the Kara city, home to crocodiles, antelopes, zebras, a turtle and many other indigenous and exotic animals. If visitors choose guided tour to explore Parc Sarakawa would cost 5000 FCFA.
