Togo is a West African country, sharing borders with Benin towards the east, Burkina Faso towards the north, Ghana towards the west and its southern boundary is located on the Gulf of Guinea. Togo spans over an area of 56,785 sq. km, while its population accounts 7,154,237 people (as of the 2013 estimation). Lome is the capital and largest city of Togo, situated on the coastline of the country. Togo is one of the member countries of the African Union, the United Nations, South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone and many other international organizations. The geographical coordinates of Togo are 6.1167° N, 1.2167° E.

 

History of Togo:

Togo saw the rule of many regional powers, especially tribal groups, including Ewé, Guin and Mina, from the 11th to the 16th century.  It fell under the European slave trade in the 16th century and remained until the 18th century. The Fazao Mafakassa National Park covers the area of semi-mountainous wetland, between Centrale Region and Kara Region in Togo. It is the largest national park of Togo, gained a place on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List for its charming scenery with striking waterfalls and rocky hills.

 

Kéran National Park:

The Kéran National Park is famous for being home to one of the largest elephant populations in West Africa. Situated in northern Togo, the park is surrounded by many other picturesque spots, including waterfalls and opportunity for hiking.
