Punta Del Este is a city located on the Atlantic Coast in Maldonado Department in Uruguay country. Punta Del Este is the popular beach city in the country visited by thousands of tourists during the peak season and spans an area of 7.86 square miles (20.35 square kilometers). Punta del Este economy is mainly based on tourism industry, commerce and retail business and surrounded by Maldonado, El Tesoro, Cerro Pelado, La Sonrisa, Punta Ballena and San Carlos towns. History of Punta Del Este:

Punta Del Este was first sighted by the Spanish during the 16th century but colonial period begun during the 18th century by the Portuguese. Punta Del Este was an uninhabited land but in the year 1896 Antonio Lussich purchased the 4,447 acres of land and started the botanical garden which is surrounded by Pines, Eucalyptus and Acacias trees. Punta Del Este became a city in the year 1957.
