Belem is the gate to Amazon River and busiest port in Para state, Brazil, is situated in the north region is the 11th most populous city in Brazil and covers an area of 410 square miles (1,070 kilometers) and lies at an average elevation of 30 feet (10 meters) above the sea level.

Belem is rich in bio diversity and surrounded by tropical Amazon mangrove trees and surrounded by Anaindeua, Santa Isabel do Para, Santo Antonio do Taua, Castanhal, Bujaru, Barcarena, Abaetetuba and Ponta de Pedras. Coordinates of Belem are 1.4558° S, 48.5039° W.

 

History of Belem:

Belem was founded in the year 1616, by Portuguese and it became city in the year 1655. During the 17th century, sugar trade was major source of income in the city and in the 18th century cattle ranching boomed replacing sugar industry. Rubber trading was established in the year 1910 which became the main form of living in the region till now.
