Santa Isabel is a municipal town in Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the United States situated in the southern coast of Puerto Rico Island, bordered by Coamo in the north, Salinas in the east and Juana Díaz towards west. Santa Isabel municipality comprises of more than 7 wards and a downtown area, Santa Isabel Pueblo.

Santa Isabel is nicknamed ‘La Ciudad de los Potros’ which means ‘The City of the Colts’. Antonio Vélez was the founder of Santa Isabel, founded on October 5, 1842.

Mercedita Airport in Ponce is the nearest airport to Santa Isabel located around 18 km from the heart of Santa Isabel town. It is catered by JetBlue Airways with scheduled passenger services to and from New York and Orlando in USA. Generally taxis are available at the airport or also tourists can use pre-booked vehicles. It takes around 30 minutes to reach Santa Isabel from airport.

Also there are regular buses plying between Santa Isabel and Ponce. Santa Isabel is situated approximately 90 km southwest of San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico.

The Museum of Puerto Rican Music is located in Ponce city, around 25 km away from Santa Isabel, is an ideal place to learn about regional singing style and the museum is open from 9 AM –12 PM, 1-5:30 PM (Wednesday-Sunday). Entrance is free.

 

Centro Ceremonial Indígena de Tibes:

The Centro Ceremonial Indígena de Tibes is a park of Tainos indigenous people, settled in Ponce. Except Monday, it is open on all the days of the week. Admission fee is $3 (adults).
