Santo Domingo is a capital city of Dominican republic located at the Coast of Caribbean Sea. Santo Domingo is the largest city covering a total area of 40.32 square miles (104.44 square kilometers) and situated at an elevation of 46 feet (14 meters) above the sea level. History of Santo Domingo:

Dominican Republic was inhabited by Taino populace before the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the year 1492 and he named the island as Hispaniola. Santo Domingo is the oldest European city in America which was inhabited by the Spanish in the year 1496. In the year 1502 the city was rebuilt on the other side of the Ozama River due the destruction from hurricane. Dominican Republic became an independent country in the year 1844 but later came under the rule of the United States.
