Middle Caicos or Grand Caicos is the largest island in the Turks and Caicos Islands territory surrounded by North Caicos in the west and East Caicos in the east. Middle Caicos attracts tourists for its Lucayan Indian archeological spots and typical caves. Conch Bar, Bambarra and Lorimers are the three main settlements on Middle Caicos.

History of Middle Caicos:

Middle Caicos is noted for the settlements of Lucayan Indians dating back to 750 AD. As per the archeological evidences, once Middle Caicos housed around 4,000 Indians. Now the island is home to around 38 Lucayan sites. Two major historical identities of Middle Caicos include Conch Bar Caves and Haulover Plantation.

 

Connectivity to Middle Caicos:

Middle Caicos has an airport but not operating. It is suggested for overseas tourists to reach Providenciales International Airport first and then take the ferry at Heaving Down Rock Marina in Providenciales and ferries arrive at Sandy Point Marina in North Caicos and there are taxis available at Sandy Point Marina to Middle Caicos.

Haulover Plantation:

The Haulover Plantation is one of the largest plantations in the islands of Turks and Caicos, built in 1791 by John Lorimer. Now tourists can find only ruins of Haulover Plantation which is located two miles away towards the north of Lorimers village.

 

Mudjin Harbour:

Mudjin Harbour begins at the northwest point of Middle Caicos and ends at Dragon Island. Its stunning high limestone cliffs and white sandy beaches are a must watch. Bring camera to click some photos of natural scenery.
