Cockburn Town is the capital city of the Turks and Caicos Islands geographically positioned at 21.459° N 71.139° W. It is situated in Grand Turk Island in the Turks Islands archipelago and is home to Bermudian architecture line Duke and Front Streets dating back to 18th and 19th centuries. Cockburn Town also houses the Turks & Caicos National Museum located on Front Street providing useful information about the history of the islands.

 

History of Cockburn Town:

Cockburn Town was founded by salt collectors in 1681 and is the capital of Turks and Caicos Islands since 1766. The location of the town is noted for its position where Juan Ponce de León first footed on the island.

 

How to reach Cockburn Town?

Cockburn Town is served by JAGS McCartney International Airport situated 3.5 kms away from the town centre. JMIA has limited connections, only caters flights to Providenciales and South Caicos, operated by Air Turks and Caicos.

It is advised for international tourists to reach the Providenciales Airport first and then reach port by taking taxi from the airport and take the ferry to Cockburn Town or board flights at Providenciales Airport to Cockburn Town Airport.

Taxis and rental cars are generally available in Cockburn Town to get around.
