Bahia de Caraquez is a city situated in the Sucre County of Manabi province in Ecuador between 0°36′0″ S latitude and 80°25′0″ W longitude. Bahia de Caraquez was founded in the year 1624 by José de Larrazábal as Villa de San Antonio de la Bahía de Caráquez during the Spanish colonial era. With one of the major ports of the country, Bahia de Caraquez served as the main trade point between Pacific South America and Central America from the late 16th century to the middle of the 17th century.
