Comayagua is the capital of Comayagua Department and the city is renowned for its Spanish Colonial architecture and cathedral. Comayagua is located at the distance of 84 kilometers from the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa and surrounded by Siguatepeque, La Paz, Lamani, San Jeronimo, Jesus De Otaoto and Santiago De Puringla and coordinates of Comayagua are 14.4600° N, 87.6500° W.

 

History of Comayagua:

In the year 1537, Comayagua was established by Conquistador Alonso de Carceres under the organization of Francisco de Montejo. Comayagua was made the capital of Honduras from the year 1540 and cathedral construction began in the year 1563 and inducted in the year 1711 and Comayagua was the capital of Honduras until the independence from Spanish and became the part of the Federal Republic of Central America becoming an independent republic, later capital city was changed from Comayagua to Tegucigalpa.
