Tegucigalpa is a municipality and the capital of Honduras in Central America, covers a total area of 1,396 square kilometers (539.1 square miles) is located at an altitude of 3,250 feet (990 meters) above the sea level. Tegucigalpa is divided into Tegucigalpa and Comayaguela by the Choluteca River. Economy of the Tegucigalpa city depends on tobacco, sugar, commerce, textile, construction and services industries and there are several domestic and international banks in the city. Tegucigalpa is home for several educational institutions and healthcare facilities and coordinates of Tegucigalpa are 14.0942° N, 87.2067° W.

 

History of Tegucigalpa:

Tegucigalpa was established in the year 1578 as Real de Minas de San Migule de Tegucigalpa by the Spanish settlers and various churches were constructed from the year 1735 to 1788. In the year 1817, various developments occurred in the town and it was declared as the city in the year 1821. Tegucigalpa became the most populated city between the year 1930s and 1960s and several construction and buildings were built during this period.
