Cochabamba is the capital city of Cochabamba Department in Bolivia country. The economy of the city is based on agriculture and cash crops, industries and one of the main centers for cocaine dealers in South America. Cochabamba is the 4th largest city in Bolivia covering an area of 70 square miles (170 square kilometers) and lies an average elevation of 8,382 feet (2,558 meter) above the sea level. Cochabamba is surrounded by Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Nuestra Senora La Paz, Sucre, Potosi, Porco, and Trinidad and located 275 kilometers from Sucre, capital of Bolivia. Coordinates of Cochabamba are 17.3833° S, 66.1667° W.

 

History of Cochabamba:

Cochabamba was occupied by indigenous ethic groups for more than 1,000 years because of fertile lands. The first Spanish to settlement in Cochabamba was in the year 1542 and city was established in the year 1571 and named as Villa de Oropesa became a major agricultural production center. King Charles III of Spain renamed the city has Villa of Cochabamba in 1786.
