Chernivtsi is the capital city of Chernivtsi Oblast in Ukraine covering an area of 153 sq. km. It is considered as the cultural hub of western Ukraine together with Lviv city and recognized as one of the cultural and educational centers of Ukraine.

 

Geography of Chernivtsi:

Chernivtsi is located 248 meters above sea level, about 510 km southwest of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. It coordinates with 48°18′0″ N latitude and 25°56′0″ E longitude.

 

History of Chernivtsi:

Chernivtsi was called by the different names in its history like Cernauți, Czernowitz, Czerniowce, Csernovic and Chernovtsy. According to the archeological findings, Chernivtsi inhabited since the Neolithic period. Including the Kingdom of Poland and the Russian Empire, Chernivtsi witnessed the rule of many eminent European powers in the past.

 

Connectivity to Chernivtsi:

Chernivtsi has an airport called Chernivtsi International Airport, located 4 km away from the heart of the city with scheduled flights from and to Timişoara and Kiev, served by Carpatair and Yanair respectively. The airport also operates seasonal flights to Rimini, served by Air Urga.

Chernivtsi is situated around 270 km from Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport.

Chernivtsi is reachable from Kiev by either bus or train and from Lviv, it costs around UAH 106 by bus.
