Granada is the capital city of Granada department in Nicaragua country in Central America, is one of the major cities in the country with historical importance is situated on the Coast of Nicaragua Lake, one of the largest in the country and covers a total area of 205 square miles (531 square kilometers). Economy of the city mainly depends in commerce, timber, gold, silver and tourism is surrounded by Masaya, Masatepe, Diriamba, Nandaime and Tipitapa. Granada is located at the distance of 48 kilometers from the capital of Nicaragua, Managua and coordinates are 11.9333° N, 85.9500° W.

 

History of Granada:

In the year 1524, Granada was established by Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba and was the first European city in America. Granada was named as Hernandez de Cordoba and was one of the prosperous regions during the colonial period. Several battles were fought to conquer the city by English, French and Dutch pirates and later William Walker, president of America tried to take the control of the city. In the 19th century, Managua was declared as the capital of the country.

Fuerte La Polvora:

Fuerte La Polvora is one of the oldest fortes in the country was constructed in the year 1748 is one of the famed historical sites in the country where tourists can climb on the top of the tower and can sight the views of the city and lovely courtyard.
