Cesis is a town situated in the northern portion of the Central Vidzeme Upland in Latvia, around 90 km northeast of Riga, the capital of Latvia. The town of Cesis is the administrative centre of Cesis municipality, known for its historical castle and is surrounded by many summer houses.

Cesis coordinates with 57°19′ N latitude and 25°16′ E longitude and covers an area of 19.28 sq. km.


History of Cesis:

Cesis is one of the oldest towns in Latvia as it was founded in the 13th century. The St. John’s Church and the Cēsis Castle ruins are the most important historical structures of Cesis.


How to reach Cesis?

Riga International Airport is the most important airport of Latvia and the closest airport to Cesis, located about 95 km from the midpoint of Cesis. This airport handles flights from and to Moscow, Minsk, Helsinki, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Voronezh, Milan, Istanbul, New York, London and many other major cities of the world.
