History of Adare:

Adare is one of the oldest villages in the country and during the Middle Ages, it was the main establishment and settled village in the country and monasteries and castle was constructed during the Middle Ages. In the year 1316, John FitzThomas FitzGerald, 1st Earl of Kildare established the Augustinian Priory but later in the year 1814, the priory was renovated and converted into a school house. In the later years, Franciscan Abbey and Trinitarian Abbey were constructed in the village.

Desmond Castle:

Desmond Castle is one of the oldest castles in the region constructed in the 12th century by the O’Donovans. Castle is one of the main landmarks in the village situated on the banks of Maigue and during summer months managed tours are offered.
