Geography of Sigulda:

Sigulda coordinates with 57°09′ N latitude and 24°52′ E longitude, is situated about 55 km from Riga, the capital of Latvia and covers an area of 18.2 sq. km.

 

History of Sigulda:

Following the independence of Latvia in 1991 from the Soviet Union, Sigulda has been growing as one of the major tourist destinations of the country. The Krimulda Castle, Turaida Castle and Sigulda Medieval Castle are the prominent historical landmarks of Sigulda.

 

Connectivity to Sigulda:

The Riga International Airport is the nearest airport to Sigulda, situated about 60 km southwest of Sigulda and operates flights to Frankfurt, Milan, Madrid, Moscow, Budapest, Bucharest, Milan, Rome and many other major cities of Europe.

Sigulda is connected to Riga by train and the time taken from Riga to Sigulda is 75 minutes. By bus, it takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes from Riga to Sigulda.

Located in the vicinity of the Sigulda town, the Krimulda Castle was resided by the Prince Liven. It was built in the 14th century in the classic style and was demolished in 1601 in a war moment. Tourists can see Swiss cottage and coach house in the manor complex.
