Bequia is the largest island in the Grenadines island chain geographically positioned between 13°00′ N latitude and 61°13′ W longitude. It belongs to the country of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines covering an area of 18 sq. km. Bequia is situated around 15 km away from the capital of the country, Kingstown. Bequia magnetizes large number of whale watchers and scuba divers during peak tourist season (December to April).

 

History of Bequia:

Bequia was earlier known as Becouya and the literal meaning of present name Bequia in ancient Arawak language is ‘island of the clouds’. It was well known for its sugar industries during the French colonial period.
