San Andreas is a town in Calaveras County in California situated on State Route 49. San Andreas spans a total area of 8.394 square miles (21.741 square kilometers) is situated at an elevation of 1,017 feet (310 meters) above the sea level and the town is renowned as “California Historical Landmark”. San Andreas is surrounded by Jackson, Valley Springs, Angles Camp, Arnold, Sonora, Pine Grove, Ione, Wilseyville and Murphys towns and situated at the distance of 68 miles from capital of California, Sacramento. Coordinates of San Andreas are 38.1961° N, 120.6806° W.

 

History of San Andreas:

San Andreas was established during the California Gold rush and the town was populated by Mexican gold miners in the year 1848. Gold was extracted from the town and in the year 1853 gold was discovered in an underground river channel in the year 1853 and later it became the town and post office in the town was inaugurated in the year 1854.
