Monterrey is positioned at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental with the coordinates of 25°40′ N 100°18′ W and the city spans over an area of 969.70 sq. km. and metro covers 5,346.80 sq. km. Monterrey is located at an altitude of 537 meters.

 

History of Monterrey:

The documented history of Monterrey dates back to the end of the 16th century when its foundation was made by Diego de Montemayor on September 20, 1596.  After the Independence War of Mexico, it turned out to be a major commercial centre and strongly geared up towards industrial growth after the formation of Fundidora Monterrey.

Monterrey has an airport named ‘General Mariano Escobedo International Airport’ with international flights to Dallas, Atlanta, Houston and Los Angeles and most of the domestic locations, is located around 30 km away from the centre of the city.
