Mogilev is situated around 75 km from the Smolensk Oblast in Russia, 200 km from Gomel in Belarus and 230 km from Minsk, the capital of Belarus. Mogilev coordinates with 53°55′ N latitude and 30°21′ E longitude, about 192 meters above mean sea level.

 

History of Mogilev:

The history of Mogilev goes back to 1267 when it was initially founded. Mogilev has a strong historical background right from when it was first occupied by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 14th century and later it became the part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the middle of the 16th century. Mogilev came under the control of the Russian Empire with the effect of the First Partition of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1772. Since the independence of Belarus in 1991, Mogilev is one of the major cities of Belarus.

The Minsk National Airport is the closest major airport to Mogilev that is located around 240 km from the heart of Mogilev and operates flights to main European destinations including Barcelona, Istanbul, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Frankfurt, London and Paris.

There are scheduled trains running between Mogilev and Minsk, Gomel, Vilnus (Lithuania) and Moscow (Russia). Mogilev also receives daily buses from Mogilev and Minsk.
