Ilulissat is a town in Qaasuitsup municipality in Queensland is located towards the western part of the Greenland and previously known as Jakobshavn. Ilulissat is the 3rd largest populated town in Greenland and tourism industry is the prominent in the town and economy of the Ilulissat depends on tourism. Ilulissat is declared as the World Heritage site by UNESCO. Coordinates of Ilulissat is 69.2167° N, 51.1000° W.

 

History of Ilulissat:

In the year 1741, Ilulissat was recognized as the trading town by Jacob Severin’s and in the 18th century, Zion church was built and it is the biggest church in Greenland. In the year 2008, town hosted the Arctic Ocean Conference by Per Stig Moller, Jans Enoksen, Prime Minister of Greenland and Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs and joint meeting held between Canada, United States, Norway, Russia and Denmark and meeting was held to converse issues like territorial claims and climate change.

 

Tourism in Ilulissat:

Ilulissat is one of the prominent tourism destinations in Greenland located in Disko Bay is identified for its stunning Icebergs and Icefjord was declared as the World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in the year 2004 and these Icefjord move about 30 to 40 meters per day and some of the Icefjord are so huge (nearly kilometer) and sometimes struck on the bottom of the Icefjord for years.
