Balchik is a town on the coast of Black Sea in the Dobrich province of Bulgaria, around 33 km southeast of Dobrich, 44 km northeast of Varna and 540 km northeast of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Balchik is one of the prominent seaside resorts in Bulgaria attracting water sport lovers for its scenic beauty.

Balchik is geographically positioned at the northeastern Bulgaria between 43°25′ N latitude and 28°10′ E longitude at an altitude of 199 meters.

 

History of Balchik:

Trivia is named in the honor of the medieval monarch, Balchik who was the brother of Dobrotitsa. Trivia was initially formed as a Thracian settlement and the Ionian ancient Greeks were settled in Balchik in later years and they changed the name from Krounoi to Dionysopolis. The present name may be changed during the rule of the Ottoman Empire.
