Podgorica is the largest city in the south east part of Montenegro country, is situated at the meeting point of Ribnica and Moraca Rivers and bounded by Zeta Plain and Bjelopavlici Valley and spans an area of 1,441 square kilometers and lies at elevation of 44 meters (144 feet) above the sea level. Podgorica is hub to administration, industries, finance, and commerce and it is center to entertainment, performing arts, media and sports. Podgorica is surrounded by Danolovgrad, Tuzi, Centinje, Mahala and Golubovci and it is the capital of the country. Coordinates of Podgorica are 42.4410° N, 19.2628° E.


History of Podgorica:

Podgorica is a historical city that was settled from the prehistoric times due to its favorable locations and ruled by Romans for several years. After the fall of Romans the region was settled by Slavic and Avar tribes and war between Slavic and Byzantium was frequent. Podgorica became the busy crossroads for trade and communication and developed in economy power, military strength and strategic importance. In the year 1474, ottoman captured the city and developed the city and constructed the fort and after the fall of ottoman, the city was ruled by various kingdoms. During the World War II the city was damaged by causing death to thousands of peoples.

Lake Skadar:

Lake Skadar is placed at the distance of 20 kilometers from middle of the city on the border of Montenegro with Albania and it is the largest lake in Balkan Peninsula and has a surface area of 6 meters (20 feet) and it is the largest bird reserve in Europe and has more than 270 bird species and declared as the national park in the year 1983.


Millennium Bridge:

Millennium Bridge is situated at the distance of 1 kilometer from middle of the city is a cable stayed bridge over the River Moraca is one of the major landmarks of the city.


Ostrog Monastery:

Ostrog Monastery is placed around 30 kilometers from middle of the city against the vertical background on the large rock of Ostroška Greda and the monastery was established in the 17th century is devoted to Saint Basil of Ostog.
