Mazeikiai is a city located on the banks of the Venta River in the north-western Lithuania. It comes under the Telsiai County in the Samogitia region, is situated about 290 km northwest of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. With a population around 45,300, Mazeikiai is the 8th largest city of Lithuania.

Mazeikiai is geographically positioned between 56°19′ N latitude and 22°20′ E longitude.

 

History of Mazeikiai:

According to the historical sources, Mazeikiai existed in the 14th century and it geared up towards development with the construction of Vilnius and Liepaja railway line in 1869. One of the sad moments of Mazeikiai’s history happened in August 1941 when around 4,000 Jews of the Mazeikiai district were killed by the Nazi Germans. Mazeikiai achieved city status in the year 1924.
