Cayo is located towards the western part of the Belize country is largest district in the country and country capital, Belmopan is situated in Cayo district. Capital of the Cayo district is San Ignacio is divided into two towns and each town is bound by rural villages and agriculture is the main form of living in the district and tourism also plays major role in the economic development. Places to Visit in Cayo:

Xunantunich:

Xunantunich is located at a distance of 38 kilometers from the center of the Cayo district. Xunantunich is an ancient Mayan archaeological site and close to the Mopan River is visited by thousands of tourists throughout the year.

 

Cahal Pech:

Cahal Pech is located at a distance of 28 kilometers in San Ignacio and the site was the home for an elite Maya family dates back to 1200 BCE, exist at the bank of river Macal.

 

Macal River:

Macal River passes through the Cayo district is one the major rivers in the country and rises in a rocky section of the Mayan Mountains and along the river there are many sanctuaries.

St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park:

St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park is situated at a distance of 22 kilometers from Belmopan City and the national park covers an area of about 500 acres and the park is managed by the Belize Audubon Society.

 

Guanacaste National Park:

Guanacaste National Park is located on the Western Highway in Belmopan and park was established in the year 1973 as a crown reserve and in the year 1990, gained the status as national park.
