Bimini is one of the districts of Bahamas located in the extreme west of the country, about 210 km from the national capital Nassau and 81 km from Florida in USA. Alice Town is the administrative centre of Bimini.

 

Geography of Bimini:

Bimini is situated between latitude 25°44′ in the north and longitude 79°15′ in the west covering an area of 23 sq. km. It comprises of three islands such as South Bimini, East Bimini and North Bimini. North Bimini is home to capital city Alice Town with abundance of shops and restaurants and South Bimini hosts South Bimini Airport.

 

History of Bimini:

Lucayans were the indigenous people of Bimini and the literal meaning of Bimini in the Lucayan language is ‘two islands’.

 

How to reach Bimini?

Bimini is served by South Bimini Airport and North Bimini Seaplane Base, operated by Silver Airways with scheduled flights to and from Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport and also by Continental Airlines. Tourists can reach North Bimini by taking taxi at South Bimini Airport to the ferry.

Kings Highway and Queen’s Highway are the two major highways on North Bimini and tourists can use bicycle or golf cart for local travel.
