History about Rupnagar:

Rupnagar was ruled by king Rokeshwar in 11th century and is named after his son Rupsen, and thus the place came to be called as Rupnagar. The city also dates back to Indus Valley Civilization.

Nangal:

Nangal is situated at the foothills of Shivalik mountain ranges  and the prime attraction of the place is the presence of Bhakra Nangal Dam which is visited by many tourists from all parts of the country. Other nearby attractions include Gobind Sagar Lake, Lakshmi Narayan temple and Shiv Ashram.

Morinda:

Morinda is located about 25 kms from Rupnagar famous for gardens and mango groves. Another main attraction of this place is the presence of a gumbaz dating back to era of Aurangazeb. The place attracts lot of local as well as international tourists all round the year.

Kiratpur Sahib:

Kiratpur Sahib is located on the banks of river Sutlej and has unique connection with Sikh Gurus. It is said that Guru Hargobind Singh spent his last days of his life in this place. There are many gurudwaras located in this town and is known as one of the busy tourist spots in Rupnagar.

Anandpur Sahib:

This is a town near Rupnagar which is said to be founded by Guru Tej Bahadur and is known for the birthplace of Khalsa. Anandpur Sahib is known for one of the five holy pilgrimage sites for the Sikhs. Other attractions include Gurudwaras, Tej Bahadur museum and Sri Dashmesh Academy.

Jateshwar Mahadev Temple:

The temple dates back to 11th century and is one of the ancient temples dedicated to lord Shiva. The temple attracts many devotees during Mahashivaratri.

Gurudwara Parivar Vichhora Sahib:

This is one of the sacred places of the Sikhs located on a elevated platform and one has to take 84 steps to reach the shrine. It is said that the last Sikh guru Guru Gobind Singh visited this shrine during his time and is a popular tourist destination near Rupnagar.

Gurudwara Bhatta Sahib:

The Gurudwara houses some of the articles like kitar, swords and dhal which were given as gifts by Guru Gobind Singh to Pathans. Many devotees throng the shrine during month of August where an annual fair is conducted to commemorate the death of Baba Jiwan Singh.

Place of Treaty between Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Lord William Benetick:

This is one of the historic sites in Rupnagar where a treaty was signed between Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Lord William Benetick in the year 1831.

Chandigarh:

Chandigarh is most renowned for golden temple, gurudwaras, rivers, gardens and museums located about 42 kms from Rupnagar.
