Tiruchirapalli was earlier known as Trishirapuram gets its name from the combination of two Sanskrit words ‘Trishira’ means ‘three heads’ and ‘Puram’ means ‘town’. Another theory states that the name Tiruchirapalli derives from ‘Chiruta-palli’ means ‘little town’.
