Gwalior city is located in the Indian continent of the state of Madhya Pradesh. Gwalior city forms the center of administration of Gwalior district. History of Gwalior

The first appearance of zero took place at a temple in Gwalior. During Pre-colonial period the city was ruled by the Hunas whose reign existed before the Gupta Dynasty rose to power. The Guptas conquered the place, in the 6th century, bringing an end to the Hunas reign. Over the years, the city was ruled by Gupta dynasty until the Gurjar Pratihars of Kannauj defeated the Guptas and took Gwalior under their control. Gwalior was later ruled by the Mughals and Marathas who fought to dominate their supremacy over the region.

In the 18th and 19th century Gwalior was ruled by the Scindia clan who belonged to the Maratha. In the 19th and 20th century treaties were signed between the Marathas and the British Raj

Until 1947, the year that marked the history of Indian Independence, Gwalior was ruled by Scindia’s. After Indian Independence, Maharaja Jivajirao Scindia submitted his entire Gwalior kingdom to the Indian Government.
