Deogarh is a well known city located in Deogarh District in the Indian State of Jharkhand. It houses the major holy place of Lord Shiva ‘Baidyanath Temple’.

Deoghar is located about 278 kms northeast of state capital Ranchi and Deogarh District covers an area of 2,479 sq. km. Deogarh is located between 24.48° N latitude and 86.7° E longitude and is placed at an elevation of 254 meters. The Postal Code of Deogarh is 814112.

Deogarh District is bound by Giridih district in the west, Dumka district to the east, Jamtara district on the south, Banka district and Jamui district, Bihar in the north and northwest respectively.

Origin and History of Deoghar:-

The literal meaning of Deogarh in Hindi language is ‘the home of God and Goddess’. Deogarh is popularly called as ‘Baba Dham’ and ‘Baidyanath Dham’. Deogarh came into existence as a district on 1 June 1983 by carved out from Santhal Parganas district.

Culture, Cuisine and Shopping in Deoghar:-

Deogarh has a great cultural background houses numerous historical monuments all over the district. Shrawan Mela is celebrated in the months of July and August every year and is the major cultural event of Deogarh and the district is home to numerous historical temples like Dakai Dubey Baba Mandir, Taapovan and Naulakha Temple.

Deogarh natives have the equal taste of both vegetarian and non vegetarian food items. Locals highly use Dal, bhat and vegetables to ready vegetarian food items. Deogarh has one important railway station well connected with Ranchi, Patna, Calcutta, Jasidih and Dumka located 4 kms away from the midpoint of the city and the nearest airport to Deogarh is Ranchi Airport situated about 280 kms away.

Baidyanath Temple:-

Baidyanath Temple is considered as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and one of the twelve Shiva Jyothirlingams in India. On every Shrawan Mela, there is big cultural event held in Baidyanath Temple. Baidyanath Temple was built with greater majority of plain stones and stands at a height of 72 feet.

Nandan Pahar:-

Nandan Pahar is a famous hill station houses prominent Nandi Temple and Shiva temple on the edge. Also it hosts a beautiful children favour park, a boot house, a restaurant and a mirror house.

Basukinath:-

Basukinath is a region in Dumka District located about 42 kms away from Deogarh city and is widely popular for its Shiva Temple. The historical temple of Shiva was built with stunning architecture.

Naulakha Mandir:-

Naulakha Mandir also called as Naulakha Temple placed just away from the famous Baba Baidyanath Temple. It is positioned at a height of 146 feet and has the idols of Radha-Krishna.
