History of Kyrenia:

Kyrenia was established by Achaeans, ancient Greek colonists from the Peloponnese and later Romans invaded the island and constructed various monuments, building and churches and after the fall of Roman the region was ruled by Byzantine emperors. Venetian ruler captured the city in the year 1489 and renovated the Kyrenia castle to defend from the gunpowder’s and cannons and in the year 1571, the city was captured by Ottoman kingdom and established the administration in the region and in the year 1878, agreement between British and Ottoman governments was signed and Great Britain established the military base in the island. In the year 1960, Cyprus declared as the independent country from the British rule and later in the year 1974, Turkish invaded the North part of the island and settled in the city.
