Forssa is a town as well as municipality in the Tavastia Proper region in Finland, situated about 60 km southwest of the Hameenlinna city and 115 km northwest of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It comes under the province of Southern Finland and it achieved town status in the year 1964.

Forssa is especially noted for its grand festivals or events such as Holjat Festival, Pick-Nick and Suvi-ilta Maraton which receives participants from all around Northern Europe. The town also houses many natural as well as manmade attractions.

Forssa is geographically located between 60°49′ N latitude and 023°37.5′ E longitude covering a total area of 253.39 sq. km.

There is no airport in Forssa, so tourists are needed to reach Tampere-Pirkkala Airport first and then take taxi or bus from there directly to Forssa. Also visitors can use tourist vehicles during the peak season.

Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is located about 85 km from the heart of Forssa, operating flights to Helsinki, Bremen, Stockholm, Bergamo, Girona, Kaunas, London,  Budapest and other major cities.

The town of Forssa lies on the banks of River Loimijoki which is a tributary of the Kokemäenjoki River originating at the Pyhajarvi Lake and flows into Kokemäenjoki River in Huittinen. There is a dam in Forssa over the River Loimijoki. River Loimijoki is highly used for fishing and water sports.

 

Hame Castle:

Hame Castle is located in Hameenlinna, around 60 km away from the Forssa town. It is a medieval period red brick castle which currently houses a regional museum and used for many local events also and Linnanpuisto Park and other museums are placed next to the castle. Tourists can take guided tours for easy exploration.

 

Holy Cross Church:

Situated in Hattula, about 65 km from Forssa, Holy Cross Church was constructed during the medieval period in the Gothic style of architecture with red bricks. Tourists can spot some typical paintings and sculptures inside the church.
