Brazzaville is the capital and largest city of the Central African country, the Republic of the Congo, located on the River Congo, which detaches Brazzaville from Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, between 4°16′04″ S latitude and 15°17′31″ E longitude. Brazzaville houses around one third of the total population of the country and is home to the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa.

Covering an area of 263.9 sq. km, Brazzaville is located around 320 meters above sea level and experiences a tropical wet and dry climate with wet season from October to May and its dry season covers the rest of the year.

 

History of Brazzaville:

The Italo-French explorer, Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza was the founder of Brazzaville, founded on the location of Nkuna village on 10 September 1880, so, the city was named after him. The city was in the control of the French from the late 19th century until Congo becoming an independent country in 1960, between this, Brazzaville served as the capital of many French colonies including the French Congo and French Equatorial Africa.
