Ngaoundere, also spelled N’Gaoundéré, is the capital city of the Adamawa Region of Cameroon, located about 670 kilometers northeast of Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon. Including the Lamido Palace and the Lamido Grand Mosque, Ngaoundere houses many natural and man-made tourist attractions which attract a large group of national and international tourists year round. The areas surrounding Ngaoundere are known for bauxite deposits. Ngaoundere coordinates with 7°19′00″ N latitude and 13°35′00″ E longitude, lying at an altitude of 1,212 meters.

 

History of Ngaoundere:

Ngaoundere holds a long historical background as it was the capital of the Mbum people. The name of Ngaoundere is a composed from the two Mbum language words, “Ngaou”, meaning ‘mountain’ and “ndéré”, meaning ‘navel’, referring the neighboring mountain on the Ngaoundere Plateau.

 

How to reach Ngaoundere?

Ngaoundere holds an airport, but there no airlines currently serve the airport. So it is suggested for international travelers to reach either Douala International Airport (around 900 kilometers) or Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport (670 kilometers) and after reaching the airport, visitors can choose an airport taxi or wait until the arrival of the bus to Ngaoundere.

For local travel, mopeds can be rented from locals otherwise, visitors can get a rental car from the travel agents in Ngaoundere.
