Known as gateway to the east Trongsa is a town in Trongsa district situated in central Bhutan. This town forms the center of administration for the district of Trongsa. Trongsa is about 187 km from the capital city of Bhutan, Thimphu. Trongsa is positioned 2300 meters above sea level. The first monastery in Bhutan was established in the year 1543 in Trongsa. Coordinates to Trongsa are 27029’58” N and 90030’17” E.

 

People & Culture of Trongsa:

Towards north and east of Trongsa locals speak in Bumthangkha and towards the southeast the inhabitants talk only in Khengkha. In the west part of Trongsa Nyenkha is the most spoken language. Lakha speakers live at the far northern end of Trongsa. Dzongkha is spoken in the far south of Trongsa district.

 

Food and Shopping at Trongsa:

The main street has restaurants catering to tourists delights. Chinese noodles, North and South Indian cuisines are a common sight in Trongsa restaurant menus.

Located besides the main street of Trongsa is Phuntso Wangmo shop which has an amazing collection of clothes of all sizes and attractive colors and design of woolen and other fabrics. Amazing wooden artifacts are also sold in this shop.

Chendbji Chorten

The structure Chendbji Chorten was created in the 18th century by Lama Shida who hailed from Tibet.

 

Trongsa Dzong

Trongsa Dzong, a fort was created in the year 1648 is controlled the central and eastern regions of Bhutan.  In the past, the first and the second king administered the entire country from this fort.

 

Ta Dzong

This structure is made of stone in the shape of a cylinder was created in the year 1652 under the reign of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. The responsibility for creating Ta Dzong was handed over to Chogyal Minjur Tempa. After serving as a fort for 350 years the structure is now a classy museum.

 

Kuenga Rabten

Kuenga Rabten is located at a distance of 23 km. Cultivation of rice crops takes place throughout the village nearby. One can have a beautiful view of the winter palace which was developed during the reign of the second king and currently, it is taken care by the National Commission for Cultural Affairs.

Roadway

Trongsa has well maintained roads connecting to nearby places within Bhutan. If you plan travel by bus from Thimpu the journey will take six hours. From Jakar the journey to Trongsa will take two hours by bus.
