Japan is located in East Asia in the middle of Pacific Ocean bound by Sea of Japan, China, North Korea, South Korea and Russia. Japan is often referred as the “Land of the Rising Sun” because the place receives the first rays of the sun in the morning. Japan consists of 6852 islands and is the 10th most populated country in the world. Majority of the population are Japanese who constitute about 98% followed by Koreans, Chinese and others.

Japan follows two houses of legislature called the Upper House also known as House of Councillors and Lower House called the House of Representatives. The Emperor of Japan is Akihito and the Prime Minister is Shinzo Abe. Japan covers a total area of 377,944 sq kms and coordinates with 35.41 degree North Latitude and 139.46 degree East Longitude.



It is said that Japan existed even during times of Upper Paleolothic Era where many written manuscripts dating to 1st century A.D. was found. Some say that Japan was formed in 660 B.C. and even today the city commemorates its formation day on 11th February. From the beginning of the 12th century A.D. to 1868, Japan was ruled by feudal military dictatorship until finally Meiji Emperor became the head of the State and the Empire of Japan was proclaimed. During the World War II, Japan came under severe atomic bombings by the US military which destroyed the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Weather in Japan:

Japan has continental climate where the summers remain cool and pleasant and winters remain very cold and chilly. As Japan comes near the Pacific coast it has humid subtropical climate conditions with hot summers and mild winters. At times, Japan also experiences mild snowfalls during months of winter. The average temperature during summer ranges around mid 20’ degree celcius and minimum temperature drops to low of 5 degree celcius.

Japan is rich in culture and tradition and is world famous for crafts, dolls, ceramics, electronics, textiles and martial arts.
